Building Stonehenge /continued Lifting the stone vertically, moving the stone horizontally: Ancient Egyptian Pyramids    I learned many things during my previous experiments, some totally unexpected, I learned for instance that it was as easy to lift a stone vertically as it was to moving the stone horizontally. I also realized that by lifting the stone vertically, I was inadvertently creating a great deal of unused energy which was stored up in the now elevated stone. This unused energy can then be released to move the stone in the direction of the pyramid construction site. This is just theory at the moment but I believe in practice the stone can be moved up to 400ft in the right direction for every 20ft of elevation using just the stored energy we have created in the stone.    The transportation experiment will be to firstly construct a lifting station perhaps 20 feet high and having previously ascertained at ground-level the optimum angle of the downward slope required we will build a ramp leading from the top of the first lifting station to the base of the next lifting station. We will then test this section of the infrastructure, I estimate that it should be possible to elevate the first stone to the top of the first lifting station in about thirty minutes using a team of perhaps twenty men,then gravity, aided by perhaps just one worker, will transport this stone (5 tons) to the base of the next station and if this proves successful we will build two more lifting stations linked by similar constructions. During the next stage of the experiment with a stone now in place at the second station and a new stone in place at the first along with a second lifting team we will be able to transport two stones simultaneously, after which we will then, with the inclusion of a third, team be able to demonstrate the simultaneous movement of three stones as the first stone will now be at the third station the second stone at the second station and a new stone at the first.    This experiment will show how the ancient Egyptians may have been able to accomplish the simultaneous movement of many stones across the desert between the quarry site and the construction site, using just the force of gravity and a very limited workforce. Although we intend to construct just a small section of what will be essentially a prehistoric stone conveyer it will dramatically demonstrate a method that would have enabled the Ancient Egyptians to deliver freshly quarried stone from the quarry site to the construction site at a rate of one new stone every few minutes. Three stones being moved perhaps 1,200 yards in the right direction simultaneously by three lifting stations equates to ten lifting stations for ten stones travelling 12,000 yards in the same time frame.    The solution to the transport problem is simply to spend a little time and energy constructing the stone conveyor between the quarry and the pyramid construction site.    We will then test the durability of the conveyor by moving enough 5 ton stones from one end to the other in order to construct a small section of the first few levels of the of a replica pyramid in the course of construction. We will then use this section of pyramid to show how with a small modification to the transport system the stones can be elevated to whatever level is required without undue physical effort. back to previous page return to top of this page
