The Megalith Movers Prehistoric Engineering
Blog 3rd December 2016    Hi all,    After finally completing the construction of our stone (concrete) staircase we were further delayed by a last flurry of bad weather as the rainy season finally drew to a close. This has delayed any attempt to test this new idea until Monday 14th November. However, we were unable to actually make a start until Tuesday, as Steve was unavailable on that day.    On Tuesday we had the luxury of an extra pair of hands when Sean arrived accompanied by his son Max, who was on his way to Europe for a long delayed gap year. All week we struggled with the problem of setting the levers so that they could pull the obelisk upright, and everything we tried failed. The following week was much the same.    Failure after failure, until on Monday of the following week during our last attempt of the day I sensed that the obelisk moved in the right direction. This was news was treated with scepticism by Steve and Sean, as the movement came right at the end of the lift and they felt nothing through the levers. I showed them the daylight between the obelisk and the corner of the top step. Still they were not convinced, and speculated that the top step had been pushed towards the tip of the obelisk. The next day there was no argument, we were pulling the obelisk upright and progress continued on Wednesday. Thursday was a great disappointment for some reason, we had come to a stop and we did not know why.    Next week we will continue adjusting the lifting beam and fulcrum until we get the set-up right, and can and can continue pulling the obelisk upright.    Below are a few photos that may help you understand better. << previous blog page next blog page >> To read & post comments click here return to top of this page
